CARTOONIST, RESEARCHER, PROF. ATILA OZER (1949 – 2011)

He was born in Burdur, Turkey on April 3rd, 1949.
He completed his elementary, middle and secondary education in Burdur.
He published his first cartoon in 1973.
He was graduated from State Engineering and Architecture Academy (1973).
He moved to Eskişehir 1975.
He had his post graduate degree in “Communication Arts” from Anadolu University Social Sciences Institute (1985).
He had “Competency in Art” in “Graphics” from Marmara University Social Sciences Institute (1986).

He became an associate professor in 1995 and a professor in 2001 in Anadolu University.
He was interested in cartoon art as a cartoonist and a researcher.
He took part in various national and international exhibitions as a participant and/or jury member.
He was the founder and the director of the Anadolu University Cartoon Art Research Center and Eskisehir Cartoon Museum which was established as part of the Research Center (2002-2011).
He was married to German teacher Vicdan Bulunmaz Ozer.
He passed away in Eskisehir, Turkey on April 23rd, 2011.

SOME AREAS THAT ATILA OZER ASSUMED A LEADING ROLE IN CARTOON ART

  • In 1978, he opened an exhibition in Hortu village where Nasreddin Hodja was born.
  • In1983, he established Anadolu University Cartoon Club and designed the emblem of the club.
  • In 1984, he instructed the first cartoon lecture in Turkish Universities in Anadolu University’s Faculty of Communication Sciences and he continued to give lectures until his death.
  • In 2002, he established Anadolu University Cartoon Art Research Center and designed the emblem of the center.
  • In 2004, he established Eskisehir Anadolu University Cartoon Museum as a part of the Cartoon Art Research Center and he designed the emblem and opened 54 exhibitions as the director of the museum until his death.
  • In 2009, he organized the 1st Cartoon Museum Directors Meeting in Eskisehir in order to establish World Cartoon Museums Union and designed the emblem of the meeting.

INSTITUTIONS WHICH BOUGHT HIS WORKS

  • One of his works’ publication rights was purchased by Tutle – Mori Agency Inc. in 1984, for “Humour Museum” book.
  • One of his works accepted to the Warsaw Cartoon Museum, Poland in 1988.
  • In 1992, PZ Magazine published in Germany purchased publication rights of his 3 works.
  • In 1997, his work with which he participated to Golden Mouflon Cartoon Festival, was accepted to the Cyprus International Cartoon Museum with the permission of Festival Committee.
  • One of his works has been added to the archives of French “Salon International du Dessin de Presse et d’ Humour” in 2002
  • In 2005, Japan Saitama Humor Center purchased one of his works.
  • Museum House of Humour and Satire, Gabrovo, Bulgaria bought two of his Works in 2009

Atila Ozer drew cartoons for books of Anadolu University Distance Learning Faculty. He designed the graphics of the following books; French, German, English, Keyboard Learning, SecretarialTraining and Secretarial Behavior for two-year degree programs.

Between the years 1984 and 1989 he designed the graphics and décor of Distance Learning Faculty TV programs.

He designed the graphics and animations of 300 lectures for Ministry of National Education’s Computer based Education project for Elementary and Middle school student. 1992

Atila Ozer was a member of Turkish Cartoonists Association since 1975 and Federation of European Cartoonists Organizations (FECO) since 1995.

International Cartoon Museums Meeting, which was founded by Atila Ozer, was held in September 2012 in Kruishoutem, Belgium. Atila Ozer’s birthday, April 3, was announced as Cartoon Museums Day at the end of the meeting.
